What this site is

Modern Git Academy publishes free educational material about Git, GitHub, CI/CD, security, DevOps and related software engineering topics.

It is a reference and teaching resource. It is not a certification programme, not a training course with an accreditation, and not a substitute for professional advice about your specific systems.

There is no account system, no enrolment, no fee and no subscription.

Educational use of content

Written content on this site is published for you to read, learn from and refer back to. You may:

• Read, print and save pages for your own reference.
• Quote short passages with attribution and a link to the original page.
• Link to any page freely.

Please do not republish articles in full, present this material as your own work, or use it to train a service that reproduces it substantially verbatim.

Code examples

The commands and code samples in these lessons are provided so you can run them and learn from them. You may use them freely in your own work, including commercially, without attribution.

Run commands on repositories you can afford to lose

Some Git operations modify or delete files, and some can discard uncommitted work permanently. Lessons flag these explicitly and offer safer alternatives where they exist, but you are responsible for what you run on your own systems.

Practise in a disposable repository created for the purpose, as the exercises instruct. Do not run unfamiliar commands against a repository containing work you have not backed up.

No warranty

The content on this site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind.

Considerable effort goes into accuracy: commands are verified against a real Git installation, platform-specific instructions follow primary vendor documentation, and version-sensitive material is marked with what it was checked against. Even so:

• Software changes. A command accurate today may behave differently in a future release.
• Environments differ. Your operating system, shell, Git version and configuration may not match those used for verification.
• Errors are possible. If you find one, please report it — corrections are made directly to the affected lesson.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content — including lost data, lost work, lost profits or business interruption.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Third-party names and trademarks

Git, GitHub, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, Microsoft, Windows, Apple, macOS, Ubuntu, Homebrew and other product names referred to on this site are the property of their respective owners.

They are used descriptively, to identify and teach about those products. Modern Git Academy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. Git itself is free software distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2; this site is an independent educational resource that teaches its use.

External links

Lessons link to external documentation and resources. Those sites are outside this site’s control, and linking to them is not an endorsement of their content, accuracy or practices.

Availability

The site is provided on a best-effort basis. There is no uptime guarantee, and pages may be changed, moved or removed at any time. Content is corrected and updated as software changes — the version you read today may differ from the version you read next year, which is intentional for version-sensitive material.

These terms may be updated. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
